Fines for having irregular immigration situation since april 20th 2018
Dear Client,
GLC Abogados and the Immigration Law Division, inform since April 20th, 2018, Immigration Office will charge a fine to foreigners, who are in the following status:
- Tourists, who have not initiated immigration procedures in the immigration office. As well as foreigners, in a state of transit and border transit, who has exceeded the deadline granted by an immigration officer at the airport or border.
- Expired work visas
- Special categories (DIMEX expired)
- Temporary residents (DIMEX expired)
- Immigration process applicants denied, who have not revoked or appealed administrative resolution, and stayed in the country in this irregular status.
The fine will be $100.00 (one hundred dollars) for each month with dimex expired or in a state of irregularity.

Where the penalty can be paid? Payments can be made at the agencies of Banco de Costa Rica and at the Costa Rican post office located in: La Cruz, Paso Canoas, Liberia, Alajuela.
